About Anlusso
The opposite of disposable.
We make hand-knitted clothing from the world's finest natural fibres — alpaca, mohair, silk, merino, cashmere and cotton. No machines. No shortcuts. Each piece is made to be worn for years, kept, and passed on.
Let's talk about price
Yes, you can find a sweater for $40.
We won't pretend otherwise. There are thousands of them. And if all you want is the shape of a sweater for one season, buy it — honestly.
But a $40 sweater isn't really cheaper. It's made from acrylic and polyester — plastic, spun into thread — knitted by a machine in seconds and finished by hands you'll never know. It pills after a few washes, loses its shape by spring, and ends up in a landfill where it will outlive everyone reading this.
What we make is a different object entirely. The price isn't a markup. It's the material, the hours, and the lifespan — three things a machine can't fake. Here's exactly where your money goes.
What you're actually paying for
It begins with the rarest part — the fibre.
Most clothing is built around the cheapest material the price can carry. We do the reverse: we choose the fibre first, then build the piece to honour it. These are the only six we work with.
Alpaca
Warmer than sheep's wool and far lighter. Naturally free of lanolin, so it never itches — and soft enough for the most sensitive skin. Combed from Andean herds, a few ounces at a time.
Mohair
From the angora goat. Prized for its luminous sheen and weightless warmth, with a soft halo that catches the light. Strong, resilient, and holds colour like no other fibre.
Cashmere
The undercoat of the cashmere goat, gathered by hand over a single season. It takes the fleece of several goats to make one garment. Lighter and warmer than wool — the benchmark every luxury fibre is measured against.
Silk
A natural protein fibre with a quiet luminosity. Remarkably strong, temperature-regulating, and smooth against the skin. We blend it in for drape, shine, and a finish that synthetics only imitate.
Merino wool
The finest wool there is — so fine it never scratches. It breathes, regulates temperature, resists odour, and keeps you warm even when damp. Comfort that lasts an entire day, every day.
Cotton
Soft, breathable, and endlessly wearable for our lighter pieces. A natural plant fibre that stays gentle wash after wash — the everyday foundation done properly.
How it's made
Every stitch is placed by a person.
A factory machine knits a sweater in minutes. One of our cardigans takes days — a single maker, working stitch by stitch, start to finish.
That's why no two pieces are ever identical. The tension of a hand, the small decisions in every row — they leave a fingerprint a machine can't reproduce. When you wear something handmade, you can feel the difference before you can name it.
Nothing is outsourced to an anonymous line. We know who made your piece, and so will you.
Side by side
Handmade & natural vs. mass-made & synthetic.
The same word — “sweater” — covers two completely different things.
The real cost
The cheaper piece is rarely the cheaper choice.
Price tells you what something costs once. Cost-per-wear tells you what it actually costs you. That's where handmade quietly wins.
Buy it, watch it pill, replace it. Over a few years you've spent more than once — and never owned anything you loved.
Worn through hundreds of cold days, kept season after season, the true cost per wear falls to almost nothing — and it still looks beautiful.
